RE:FRAME PAVILLION
Re:Frame Pavilion is the 2025 USC Design Guild Charrette 1st place wining entry; a 3 day long intensive period of design under a set of guidelines. Competitors were tasked with designing a pavilion for the 2028 LA Olympics that stands somewhere within Exposition park, uses CLT as its primary structure, and engages LA with a life beyond its initial use at the games. In partnership with Sakiko Tanaka and Ethan Santana, our team designed a system of comb structures, derived from 10 standard planks of CLT. The objective was to create a space that changed during the games to fulfill varying needs, and could be adapted after the games as public infrastructure (park benches, bike racks, and bus stops). By using a system of dowels, our team sought to embrace the nature of CLT construction as a sustainable, reusable construction method. The first configuration resembles an abstracted “LA” graphic, arranged for dining during the opening ceremony. The second configuration during the games provides space for rest and gathering. The final post-games configuration seeks to solidify the goal of the games being a benefit first and foremost to the people of LA, being reused to promote public transit.
