BUILT WITHIN

Built Within is part of a 2 week project done in partnership with architecture students at the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City, while studying abroad in Vietnam. The project included an investigation of Khu Tap The; a housing typology born from soviet influence on Vietnam’s public housing. Students were tasked with documenting and then modifying a given housing complex with the intention of re-invigorating these soviet sites with the living traditions of Vietnamese public. Our proposal included bridging of units to accommodate larger families as well as an increased internal corridor for lighting and ventilation, in addition to other adaptive strategies.
